I would like to thank the Committee for the opportunity of judging this Club Open Show today. I had a quality entry and have really enjoyed my day. Special thanks to my stewards on the day, Netty and Steve who so admirably kept me on track.

DOGS

Class 1: Veteran   7 entries (0 absent)

1st          Cherryheath’s Mr Mischief (Barkley, Miss S) A dog I have admired for many years, a really handsome 12 year old. Although has lost some of his rich red colour was in good coat and condition. Lovely headwith a soft, kind expression and lovely chiselling. Good reach of neck and excellent angulation with well laid back shoulder. Good spring of rib and deep brisket. Well off for bone and really tight feet. Moved soundly and effortlessly with real push and drive. Correct tail carriage and maintained top-line well. A happy boy whose tail didn’t stop wagging. Pleased to award him BEST VETERAN In SHOW today.

2nd             Llon Ddraig Goch (Pick and Chisholm, Mr S.D. and Mrs M)  - Rich red and white, a beautiful broken-coated boy that I have judged previously. Stunning  head with a soft, dark eye. Good reach of neck and lovely top-line. Plenty of bone, good ribs, strong in the loin, lovely turn of stifle and beautiful  tight feet. Presented well and shown in excellent condition. Well balanced with real breed type. Moved soundly.

3rd          Stedigan All In Good Time for Merrem  (Stone, Mr C and Mrs K)

1st           Cerysan Limited Edition (Caldwell and Levy, Mrs A.P and Mrs C) - A lovely well balanced 9 month old puppy. Rich red and white shown in good condition.  A beautiful head with a soft, kind expression. Lovely reach of neck and has good angulation front and back. Well off for bone and really tight feet.  Correct  top-line, held steady on the move. Moved  happily. Pleased to award him BEST PUPPY DOG and BEST PUPPY IN SHOW today.

1st           Cerysan Limited Edition (Caldwell and Levy, Mrs A.P and Mrs C) - As previous (Puppy)

Class 5: Special Yearling 2 entries (0 absent)

1st           Kidenoan Mark Time For Merrem  JW  (Stone, Mr C and Mrs K) – Rich red and white dog with a nice head and well- muscled frame. Lovely reach of neck and good fore-chest. Excellent spring of rib an  good angulation fore and aft. Correct top-line and lovely tail carriage. Moved well and happily on very good, tight feet.

2nd          Glenbrows Best of Friends (Batey, Mr G.E and Mrs S.P) – Eye catching youngster shown in great condition. Good coat with well-developed feathering.  Really lovely head with a soft expression. Good ribs and correct angulation throughout. Unfortunately, didn’t move well today.

Class 6: Novice  1 entry (0 absent).

1st           Cerysan Crusader (Bennett,Mrs T) – Rich red and white. Good coat. Gentle head with soft eye. Very good reach of neck. Good angulation and ribbing and excellent feet. Nice top-line but tail carried a little high today and a little unsettled on the move.

Class 7: Graduate 2 entries (0 absent)

1st           Mymmsbrook Matador With Blythway JW (Stevenson, Mr P and Mrs F.M. - Lovely solidly constructed youngster who presented a nice balanced picture.  Really rich coat colouring and shown in good condition. Nice head and good neck and shoulders. Very good fore-chest and excellent ribbing. Angulation correct fore and aft. Plenty of bone and really tight feet. Moved happily and soundly.

2nd          Glenbrows Marquis (Williams, Williams, Harrison and Harrison, Mr S, Mrs H, Mr . and Mrs H.) – Handsome dog shown in good coat. Rich red and white in colour. Stunning head, enough bone, correct angulation and good ribbing. Longer in construction than (1). Would prefer feet to be a bit tighter. Moved ok. A little reluctant to be gone over today but should come with practice.

Class 8: Post Graduate 2 entries (0 absent)

1st           Trosley Tamoshanta (Jones, Mrs S.D) – This dog presented a very balanced picture. He has a lovely head with a melting expression. Shown in good coat and very well presented. He has very good bone and lovely lay back of shoulder. Good reach of neck and correct angulation. He has excellent feet and lovely low hocks plus a good  top-line and correct tail-set, all carried well on the move.  Pushed hard for top honors today. His time will come I am sure.

2nd          Julita Rainmaker With Woodelrond (Hankins, Mr T.E and Mrs H.L) – Nice head with a beautiful dark eye. Has a very good, thick red and white coat but a little curly. Correct angulation and enough ribbing. Lovely tight feet, a good top-line and correct tail carriage. However didn’t move with purpose today.

Class 9: Limit 6 entries (1 withdrawn)

1st           Llon Derwen Dar at Gwynmarren (Wren, Mrs P) – Mature Welsh,  so full of breed  type. Stunning head with soft expression and lovely chiselling. Good, thick coat, a lovely rich red and white. Good reach of neck and good fore-chest. Nice spring of rib, plenty of bone and good, tight feet. Nice lay-back of shoulder and excellent angulation. Good top-line and tail-set carried well on move. Deserved his RESERVE BEST DOG award today.

2nd             Helgen  Romeo the Lover for Flyboron (Bennett, Mrs T) – Another mature Welsh. Beautiful head and coat, shown in good condition. Good chest and ribbing and a lovely deep brisket. Correct angulation fore and aft and a nice top-line and tail set. Appeared well-balanced and moved well and soundly.

3rd          Heniveruce King of Brewers (Gaylor and Robertson, Miss C.J and Mr I)

Class10: Open 4 entries (1 absent)

1st           Llon Lewys at Gwynmarren (Wren, Mrs P) – This boy couldn’t be anything but a Welsh Springer. He is so full of breed type shown in full coat and beautifully presented. He has a stunning head with  a lovely dark eye and plenty of chiselling beneath. Good reach of neck and lay back of shoulder.  Good fore-chest and excellent ribbing and proportions.  He has good angulation front and back and is well-off for bone. Moves soundly on tight feet and short hocks. So deserving of his award of BEST DOG and BEST IN SHOW today. Just loved him.

2nd          Taimere’s Talk About Me (Cemis, Ms R) – Another lovely mature boy shown in full coat and presented well.  Nice head, dark eye and lovely, kind expression. Good reach of neck and good angulation with lovely spring of rib. Very good feet  and correct top-line. Moved soundly and happily.

3rd          Glynell Jiffy (Woodhams, Mrs J.M)

Class 11: Special Beginners

1st           Cerysan Crusader (Bennett, Mrs T) – As previous (Novice Dog)

2nd          Julita Rukester (Gough, Miss M.C) – Rich red and white shown in good coat. Nice head with soft expression. Good front and lovely spring of rib. Nice deep brisket. Very good feet, correct top-line and tail-set.  A little untidy on the move today.

3rd          Coombefield Balderdash (Owen, Ms P)

Class 12: Good Citizen

1st           Cherryheath’s  Mr Mojito (Barkley, Miss S) – A lovely balanced Welsh. Nice head with soft expression. He has a good neck and lovely chest and ribbing with the correct proportions of rib to loin. Good angulation front and back and plenty of bone. Good tight feet and nice top-line held steady on the move. Lovely on the move – covered the ground well with plenty of drive.

2nd          Helgen Romeo the Lover for Flyboron (Bennett, Mrs T) – As previous (Limit Dog)

3rd          Heniveruce King of Brewers (Gaylor and Robertson, Miss C.J and Mr I)

1st           Cherryheath’s Miss Velocity (Barkley, Miss S) – Beautiful head on this 8 year old bitch. Rich red and white and coat in excellent condition. She is well-off for bone and has good angulation front and rear. Lovely top-line and correct rib to loin ratio, she presented a very balanced picture. She was superbly handled and moved with purpose, driving from the rear.

2nd          Sarabande Billie Jean at Hinxwood (Woodward, Mrs J.M) – A 7 year old bitch with a very sweet head and a really rich red and white coat. She had good angulation fore and aft but was longer in her couplings. Lovely tight feet and a nice top-line . Moved happily. I would have preferred a little more substance.

1st           Trenzalore’s Bill Potts (Naunton, Mrs J) – Lovely 10 month old with a very sweet head, dark eye and melting expression. Correct bite. Really richly coloured red and white coat with feathering just developing. Good angulation fore and aft and nice top-line and correct tail-set. Lovely temperament and moved soundly and happily. Happy to award BEST PUPPY BITCH today but lost out to my male puppy as I preferred  his chest development and ribbing.

1st           Trenzalore’s Princess Leia (Naunton, Mrs J) – Lovely rich colour to coat. Very sweet feminine head and a good reach of neck. Enough bone and good front and rear angulation. Good fore-chest and depth of brisket. Enough bone and very good feet and nice top-line.  Moved happily. A lovely well-balanced bitch but needs more development which will come in time.

1st           Llon Llanharran Lleuci (Baldry, Mrs L) – Lovely broken coated bitch in excellent condition. Stunning head with a very dark eye and soft expression. Nice reach of neck and good angulation. Good chest  and is strong and muscular but would benefit from a little more ribbing . Good bone and short hocks. Moved soundly and happily.

2nd          Julita Raindance at Teaselwood (Ferguson, Mrs B.M) – Nice compact bitch who appears well-balanced. Nice head with hazel eye and a good reach of neck. Good angulation and enough bone. Unfortunately, not driving from the rear today and lost top-line on the move.

3rd          Trenzalore Oncoming Storm (Naunton, Mrs J)

Class 21: Limit  5 entries (2 absent)

1st           Isfryn Lady Godiva at Fireglow (Waller, Miss R) – It is all there - a stunning well-balanced bitch that I have judged previously. Rich red and white and presents a lovely silhouette . Nice head with kind eye and soft expression. Good reach of neck. Plenty of fore-chest and well-sprung ribs. Good angulation front and rear with a well-laid back shoulder. Plenty of bone and good really tight feet. Lovely top-line carried well. This bitch excels on the move exhibiting faultless foot placement plus real push and drive. Pleased to award her BEST BITCH, RESERVE BEST IN SHOW and BEST OPPOSITE SEX IN SHOW today – so deserving.

2nd          Bowdonia Truly Scrumptious (Thomas, Ms M) – Attractive bitch with good, thick coat, rich red and white colour. Sweet head with dark eye and soft expression. Lovely reach of neck and nice top-line. Plenty of ribbing and bone. Nicely balanced with good, tight feet and good rear angulation. Moved soundly and happily.

3rd          Hillpark Queen Bee for Cerysan (Caldwell, Mrs A.P)

 

Class 22: Open 2 entries (0 absent)

1st           Hinxwood Fire and Ice (Woodward, Mrs J.M) -  Beautiful broken coated well-developed bitch in stunning condition. Sweet head with dark eye and good ear placement. Good reach of neck and lovely lay back of shoulder and deep brisket. Has plenty of bone and stands 4 square with lovely vertical hocks.   Good top-line, carried well and correct tailset. Sound and happy on the move. Awarded  RESERVE  BEST BITCH today. Splitting hairs between her and Isfryn Lady Godiva at Fireglow but the latter absolutely excels in movement and just pipped her today.

2nd          Sh Ch Julita Rumours at Trosley (Jones, Mrs S.D) – Lovely mature bitch. Stunning head with kind expression and dark eye with plenty of work beneath.  Good reach of neck, well developed fore-chest and excellent spring of rib. Well off for bone and has nice tight feet. Good angulation.  Longer in the couplings  than winner. Good top-line, carried well and correct tail-set. Moved happily with a wagging tail. Beaten here on movement today.

1st           Woodham, Mrs J.A – A lovely pair of Welsh Springers who excelled on the move today. A rich red and white pair who appeared very happy with wagging tails. At one with their handler.

2nd          Caldwell, Mrs A.P – A difficult decision this as these too were a lovely sight. Identical heads and expressions and moved steadily and smoothly. Just splitting hairs here - wish I had 2 first places.

I was delighted to be invited to judge the Specials at this lovely friendly show. I would like to commend the committee on how well they delivered this show under such terribly sad circumstances.

Special Junior (2, 1a): 

1st Caldwell & Levy’s Cerysan Limited Edition, 9 months dog, dark eye, open nostrils, tight feet, good bone for size, correct proportions of body to leg ratio, in good condition with moderate turn of stifle. Moved co-ordinately. Just needs to fill out through the front which will come in time.

Special Post Graduate (6):

1st Stevenson’s Mymmsbrook Matador with Blythway JW
, maturing well, stands out for quality, lovely bone & substance. Nice head with kind eye, lovely tight cat-like feet, good depth of chest, he is in super body & coat condition. His strength through his body & hindquarters can be felt & makes all the difference to his posture & movement;
2nd Stone’s Kidenoan Mark Time for Merrem JW
, very showy male nearly 2 years. Kind eye, good feet & bone for size, correct ribbing. Just preferred rear pasterns of 1 on the move;
3rd Ferguson’s Julita Raindance at Teaselwood.

1st Thomas’ Bowdonia Truly Scrumptious,
2 year old bitch, stood out standing & moving presenting a pleasing picture in outline. Tidy feet, good depth of chest, clean neck into shoulders, good bone for size, well-muscled & taut through the loin with correct slight arch. In good coat & body condition. Moved & handled well;
2nd Woodhams’ Tobermyn Minstrel Boy
, can’t believe this boy is 11 years, has a lovely confident posture even for his advancing years. Good forechest, clean neck into shoulders, presents a lovely picture standing & stands on firm feet. Moved well;
3rd Barkley’s Sh Ch Cherryheath’s Mr Mischief JW ShCM VW.
